Recently, the China Iron and Steel Industry Association (CISA) and the Chinese Society for Metals (CSM) jointly announced the winners of the 2025 Metallurgical Science and Technology Award. Xingtai Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Xingtai Steel)'s R&D project titled "Development and Application of Inclusion Harmlessness and Homogenization Control Technology for High-Quality High-Carbon Special Steel Wire Rods" won the Third Prize. As one of the most influential scientific and technological awards in the iron and steel industry, this recognition marks the industry's affirmation of Xingtai Steel's technological innovation in the field of high-carbon special steel.
Addressing key industry technical challenges such as inclusion control and billet segregation in high-carbon special steel production, Xingtai Steel, in collaboration with the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), Shanghai University (Zhejiang) Institute of Advanced Equipment and Basic Materials, has 經(jīng)過 years of continuous R&D and innovatively proposed technologies including large-size inclusion harmlessness, billet carbon segregation homogenization, and internal quality evaluation. Through integrated innovation, a complete quality control technology system for high-quality high-carbon special steel wire rods has been established, significantly improving fatigue life, continuous casting heats, carbon segregation index, and carbide network/banded structure grade. The successful implementation of this project has led to remarkable improvements in key product indicators such as drawing performance, fatigue performance, and fracture toughness. It also boasts significant promotion and application value, achieving substantial economic and social benefits.
